Hollioake's girlfriend out of intensive care Wisden CricInfo staff - April 5, 2002
The condition of Janaya Scholten, the girl who was seriously injured in the car-crash that killed her boyfriend Ben Hollioake, has improved, according to hospital officials today. She has been transferred from the intensive-care unit to a general ward, but remains in a serious condition. A spokeswoman for the Royal Perth Hospital said: "Her condition has improved slightly and she is stable, but still seriously ill." Janaya, who was 23 the day after the crash on March 23, suffered severe head and chest injuries when Hollioake's Porsche slammed into a brick wall in South Perth. Hollioake himself died at the scene of the crash. Adam Hollioake, Ben's brother and county captain - and an England player himself - said at the funeral that he and his wife were expecting a baby daughter and had decided to name her Benaya, in tribute to Ben and Janaya.
