Sinclair replaces injured Vincent Wisden CricInfo staff - April 4, 2002
Mathew Sinclair has been recalled to the New Zealand side in place of the injured Lou Vincent for the Sharjah Cup which gets underway next week Vincent was ruled out of the tournament with Sri Lanka and Pakistan sustaining a bruised left lung and a ruptured airway when he was struck by Andy Caddick at Auckland. Vincent is, however, expected to be fit for the tour to Pakistan which begins on April 18. Sinclair has not played a one-day international since August 2001. In 19 one-dayers he has scored 528 runs at 29.33 Chris Harris and uncapped Northern Districts wicketkeeper Robbie Hart have been included in the squad for the Pakistan Tests. Hart, 27, replaces Adam Parore, who retired at the end of the Auckland Test, while Harris kept his place on the strength of his fighting 71 in the same match. Left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori was included subject to a successful fitness test on his long-standing back injury, but fast bowlers Chris Cairns, Shane Bond and Dion Nash were not considered because of injuries. The selectors also named Auckland legspinner Brooke Walker in the squad.
New Zealand in Pakistan Vettori gets a chance to rest his back as he sits out the one-day internationals in Sharjah and Pakistan that precede the Tests. Chris Nevin returns as wicketkeeper in the one-day side.
