Benson & Hedges Cup Roundup
Ralph Dellor - 30 April 2002

Action in the latest round of zonal matches in the Benson and Hedges Cup was confined to Trent Bridge, Nottingham, where the home side and neighbours Derbyshire played out a ten over slog between the showers. Nottinghamshire won by ten wickets while the matches scheduled for Lord's between Middlesex and Essex and at Taunton between Somerset and Glamorgan were washed out completely.

Derbyshire were put in by Nottinghamshire and, despite a rapid start, were soon in trouble. Michael Di Venuto with 30 from just 16 balls and 26 from 27 balls from Stephen Stubbings saw Derbyshire lose the first wicket with 52 on the board. However, with Greg Smith producing the remarkable figures of 3 for 8 off 2 overs, the rest of the innings fell away without any contribution of substance and the final total was an inadequate 72 for 7.

Nottinghamshire also got off to a good start, and never looked back. Chris Read, with 35 from 23 balls, and Lance Klusener (39 from 27) took their side home in 8.2 overs in a thoroughly clinical fashion.
