Thessman and Schwass take CD honours Lynn McConnell - 17 April 2002
Nicole Thessman and Andrew Schwass have been named Central Districts' women's and men's players of the year. Thessman, a top-order batsman, had average of 101.33 in the State League this year with the Central Hinds. Her highest score was 85 not out and she hit a total of 350 runs, including three half-centuries. Her efforts were acknowledged when she was included in the New Zealand women's A team that toured Australia in February. Schwass had an outstanding season in the State Championship, taking most wickets in the competition. His 45 wickets came at a cost of only 14.73 and he took five wickets in an innings on three occasions. He also scored 272 runs at 20.92 in the Championship and took nine wickets at 22.77 in seven State Shield matches. Among all the CD players to have taken more than 50 first-class wickets, he has the best average, with his 68 wickets costing 17.64 runs each. © CricInfo
