Walmsley Otago's cricketer of the year

Former international fast bowler Kerry Walmsley has been named Otago's cricketer of the year.

The awards were announced at a special function in Dunedin this evening. Walmsley took 32 wickets at an average of 22.43 this season, despite playing in only seven matches during the year. Walmsley won the Peter Dick Trophy and added the Wycherley Trophy as the best bowler in Otago.

Jordan Sheed, an entrant into the New Zealand Academy this year, was named the rising star and won the Parry Thompson Trophy.

Craig Pryor won the Trustbank Cup as the best batsman of the year having scored 423 runs during the season.

The E H Downes Memorial Trophy went to Nathan Morland as best fieldsman.

Brendon McCullum, who made his One-Day International debut this year was awarded the John M Kennedy Cup for the fastest State 50.

In the women's awards Rachel Pullar was named the player of the year and the batsman of the year. Elizabeth Scurr was the best bowler, Rowan Milburn the best fielder and Katey Martin the rising star.

Coach of the year went to Iain Nellias while George Morris was recognised for his outstanding contribution to cricket.

The Murray North Memorial Trophy for the outstanding individual performance by an Otago representative player during the season went to Claire Thompson.

Other awards were:

Under 17 girls': Lara McKenzie (batting), Claire Thompson (bowling), Suzannah Bates (outstanding performer).

Under 21 women: Sarah Tsukigawa (batting), Elizabeth Scurr (bowling), Katey Martin (outstanding performer).

Under 14 boys': Glenn Paterson (batting), Cameron Rutherford (bowling), Daniel Forde (outstanding performer).

Under 15 boys': Blair Cooper (batting), Tom Cooney (bowling), Kieran Noema-Barnett (outstanding performer).

Under 17 boys': Tim McClean (batting), Byron Wagstaff (bowling), Craig Smith (outstanding performer).

Under 19 boys': Jordan Sheed (batting), Mathew Harvie (bowling), Jarrad Waldron (outstanding performer).
