New Zealand No 3 batsman Mathew Sinclair ended his Yorkshire League season on Saturday having seen his Cleethorpes club score 100 points in the league for the first time.

The club completed its sixth successive victory when beating York and Sinclair rounded out his season by scoring 33 to finish on 1195 runs at an average of 91.92.

The Meggies batted first on a good batting track but lost two early wickets, then Sinclair departed to a brilliant square leg catch to leave the side 69/3.

Cleethorpes' tail came to light however and wicket-keeper Graham Wilson scored a magnificent 74 batting at No 9. Cleethorpes finished on 224/9.

The development of the Cleethorpes bowling attack has been one of the key points of the summer and their ability was seen again as York was all out for 119, the last wicket being taken by Sinclair, who picked up 20 wickets for the club during the season.

Praise for Sinclair's contribution was made by Karl Walton for the club. He wrote in his weekly report: "This game was all about Mathew Sinclair however and what a magnificent ambassador he has been for Cleethorpes Cricket Club and New Zealand in general.

"The league batting record of 1394 runs would surely have fallen were it not for the nine games he will now have missed for various reasons. His contribution off the field was immense as well at the club and he will certainly go down in the Meggies history books as the finest player ever to don their colours."

In the Lancashire League, Tama Canning's Accrington club was all out for 72 against East Lancs, with Canning scoring 45 of the runs. In East Lancs' response of 73/2, Canning took one for 22. Accrington is second from the bottom of the points ladder.
