England tours go ahead Wisden CricInfo staff - September 13, 2001
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said today that it had no plans to cancel the tours to Zimbabwe and India in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on the United States of America. The ECB sought advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and was told that there was no reason why the trips could not go ahead. "At the moment there is no suggestion of any England tour being affected," said an ECB spokesman. "With regard to safety and security issues for overseas tours, we take our lead from any advice given by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office." The wisdom of touring Zimbabwe at the end of this month had already been the subject of considerable debate following the domestic unrest caused by the government's implementation of its Land Reform policy.
