Claude Henderson
Wisden CricInfo staff - September 6, 2001
Wisden overview Claude Henderson was one of the key bowlers as Western Province won South Africa's 2000-01 domestic championship. His ability to settle quickly into a good rhythm and bowl lengthy, aggressive spells of left-arm spin finally resulted in a call-up to the national side ten years after his first-class debut. Henderson does find some turn, but his trump cards are his height and the extra bounce that comes with it. Henderson learned of his call-up for South Africa's 2001-02 tour of Zimbabwe on the telephone while playing club cricket in England. He felt his selection had come at a time when he was bowling better than ever. A stubborn, unorthodox batsman with an ability to block one end before exploding into a series of boundaries using little or no footwork, he can be a bowler's nightmare. He is a fine gully fielder, an unassuming character, and immensely popular with team-mates. And he proved steady under fire in Australia in 2001-02. Neil Manthorp
