The stats point only one way
Wisden CricInfo staff - September 6, 2001
South Africa have a 100% record against Zimbabwe in Tests. There have been three matches between the teams – at Harare in 1995-96 and 1999-2000, and at Bloemfontein in 1999-2000 – and South Africa have won them all.
The first match will be Zimbabwe's 55th in Test cricket – and former captain Alistair Campbell has played in all of them. Zimbabwe have won six, lost 27 and drawn 21 of their previous 54 Test matches.
This will be the 20th Test match at the Harare Sports Club. Zimbabwe have won four, lost eight and drawn seven of the previous 19.
South African allrounder Jacques Kallis is in sight of a notable double. Going in to his 51st Test, he had scored 2952 runs and taken 94 wickets.
Andy Flower needs 92 runs to become the first Zimbabwean to score 4000 in Tests. His brother, Grant, is 165 short of 3000. Both Flower brothers had 52 caps to their credit before this match.
Zimbabwe have never recorded a century partnership against South Africa. Their best is 97, for the fifth wicket, by Andy Flower and Guy Whittall at Harare in 1995-96. Their best 10th-wicket partnership against SA (42) is over three times higher than their best opening stand – 15.
Allan Donald has the best bowling figures in an innings (8 for 71) and a match (11 for 113) in South Africa-Zimbabwe Tests, both set at Harare in 1995-96. The highest score in the series is Andrew Hudson's 135 for SA in the same game. Mark Boucher (125) and Jacques Kallis scored centuries at Harare in 1999-2000: Zimbabwe's highest score is 85 by Guy Whittall at Bloemfontein in 1999-2000.
