Inzamam suspended from one-dayers
Wisden CricInfo staff - September 3, 2001

KARACHI (Reuters): Pakistan batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq has been ruled out for the first two one-day internationals against New Zealand later this month. "Inzamam has to serve a two-match suspension [from one-day internationals] and he will not be considered for selection for the matches at Karachi and Lahore," Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) director Munawwar Rana told Reuters.

New Zealand are due to arrive in Pakistan on September 12 to play three Tests and three one-day internationals.

Inzamam was fined and given a two-match suspension by match referee Brian Hastings during the NatWest series final against Australia at Lord's in July for showing dissent after being given out lbw by umpire Peter Willey.

"We have been notified by the International Cricket Council (ICC) about the match referee's decision and he will only be available for the series against New Zealand from the third match in Rawalpindi," Rana said.

Inzamam is Pakistan's second-highest one-day run-getter after Saeed Anwar with 8028 runs in 248 matches. He also scored a powerful hundred against Bangladesh in his home town of Multan in the Asian Test Championship match last week.
