Now England women must make decisions about tour to India Cricinfo - 31 October 2001
With the lengthy deliberations about England's tour to India hogging the headlines, it has almost gone unnoticed that there is another England tour planned to take place to India in the New Year. The England women's team is due to travel there in January for a series of one Test and five one-day internationals. However, the same doubts about personal safety have been raised and have been addressed in exactly the same way as the men. The ECB have issued a statement to the effect that "A meeting has taken place between Gill McConway, ECB's Executive Director of Women's Cricket and the England Squad to discuss the women's forthcoming tour to India in January. The ECB will consult closely with the players, the Foreign Office and the High Commission in India. England's women players will be able to decide nearer the time if they wish to participate in the tour." Once again, it will be up to individual players to decide for themselves. The difference between the men's and women's teams is that there is more time available for the decision to be made and the women will be able to draw on the experiences of the men when they tour in November. © Cricinfo
