Hinds injury another blow for West Indies CricInfo - 31 October 2001
The West Indies have been hit by another injury blow as they prepare to leave for their seven-week tour of Sri Lanka. Wavell Hinds of Jamaica, who was drafted into the squad last week to replace Shivnarine Chanderpaul, is now injured himself. Hinds suffered a broken nose while batting in a Melbourne Club Festival match. Ironically, the left-hander was facing the bowling of former West Indies fast bowler and current selector, Joel Garner. Hinds will have surgery on Friday, and it is hoped that he will be able to travel to Sri Lanka on Monday. The West Indies Cricket Board is awaiting a written report on Hinds, after which the selectors will make a decision on whether he will take part in the Sri Lanka tour. Meanwhile Brian Lara, currently in London for treatment on his injury, will join his team-mates there for the Sri Lanka leg of the journey. © CricInfo Ltd.
