• Sachin Tendulkar's hundred was his 30th in one-day internationals – a cool 11 more than the next-best, by Saeed Anwar – but only his fifth outside Asia. It is also the first time Tendulkar has made 50 or more in an ODI against South Africa in South Africa (though he did make 104 against Zimbabwe at Benoni in 1996-97). • India's total of 279 was the highest score in ODIs at Johannesburg, until South Africa eased past it. India's total also surpassed their previous-highest score against South Africa in ODIs away from home: 234 at Durban in 1996-97.

• Sourav Ganguly's 127 was his first century in his last 19 one-day internationals. Before that he had made nine hundreds in 37 ODIs. It is also his third one-day hundred against South Africa, but his first against them in South Africa.

• Ganguly has now made 17 one-day hundreds (only four of which have been in India), and has moved to joint-fourth in the alltime list alongside Desmond Haynes. Above them are Mark Waugh (18), Saeed Anwar (19) and Tendulkar (30). It is also Ganguly's sixth ODI hundred as captain, equalling Tendulkar's world record.

• Ganguly has now scored 2139 runs in ODIs since January 1, 2000, more than other batsman.

• Ganguly's ton was only the second by an Indian in an ODI away to South Africa. The first was WV Raman's 113 at Centurion in 1992-93.

• The 193-run stand between Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly is the third and highest century partnership by openers at the Wanderers. The previous best was 190 between Mike Rindel and Gary Kirsten against Pakistan in 1995.

• South Africa's 280 for 4 is their second highest score to win an ODI at home batting second. Their best was 289 for 5 against New Zealand at Kimberley in 2000-01.

• Gary Kirsten made his 12th ODI hundred, five more than the next South Africa, Jacques Kallis. He has made a hundred in each of South Africa's top three run-chases at home: 133 here, 101 against New Zealand at Kimberley last year, and 116 against England at Centurion in 1995-96.
