Odoyo guides Kenya to crushing victory Wisden CricInfo staff - October 2, 2001
SOWETO, South Africa (Reuters) Odoyo scored an unbeaten 112 in Kenya's imposing total of 317 for 6, and then took two wickets to help bowl the Invitation XI out for 93 in 30.4 overs. It was an emphatic victory for a Kenyan side which, after winning the toss and choosing to bat, was reeling at 20 for 3 after five overs. Odoyo and Steve Tikolo, the captain, stabilised the tourists' innings with a fifth-wicket partnership of 106 off 122 balls. Tikolo was dismissed for 78 in the 34th over when he was caught by Walter Masimula at deep midwicket off left-arm spinner Neil Fusedale. But Odoyo took full advantage of the Invitation XI's lacklustre attack, facing just 108 balls and hitting seven fours and five sixes. Medium-pacer Masimula returned the worst of an expensive set of bowling figures, taking 1 for 91 from his 10 overs. In all there were 47 extras, including 39 wides. The Invitation XI's batting was no better than their bowling. The 23-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Sandile Masingeni and Nicholas Mataboge was the best stand in a dismal innings. Collins Otieno was the pick of the Kenyan bowlers, with 3 for 26.
