SA's biggest win yet Wisden CricInfo staff - October 22, 2001
• South Africa's 208-run win was their largest margin of victory in 238 one-day internationals, and Kenya's heaviest defeat in 42 official matches. And it appears that little has changed in five years, as the previous best/worst for both sides (202 runs) also came in a South Africa-Kenya encounter, at Nairobi on October 3, 1996. • Only three teams in the history of the shortened game have won by a heavier margin of runs. Sri Lanka (299-5) beat India (54) by 245 runs, Sharjah 2000-01. Pakistan (320-3) beat Bangladesh (87) by 233 runs, Dhaka 2000. Australia (323-2) beat Sri Lanka (91) by 232 runs, Adelaide 1984-85. • Gary Kirsten and Neil McKenzie added 207 for the second wicket, a record for South Africa in one-day internationals. It surpassed the previous-best of 179, by Herschelle Gibbs and Jacques Kallis in the second ODI against West Indies in Antigua in 2000-01. It is also the highest second-wicket partnership in one-dayers in South Africa. The previous best was 197, by Phil Simmons and Brian Lara for West Indies v Pakistan at Durban in 1992-93. • South Africa's 354 for 3 is the highest score in one-dayers at Cape Town, surpassing the previous best of 258 for 7, made by South Africa against New Zealand in 2000-01. • Mark Boucher's 19-ball half-century is the fastest ODI fifty by a South African, and the fourth fastest of all time. Only Sanath Jayasuriya (17 balls), Simon O'Donnell and Shahid Afridi (both 18 balls) have been quicker. • Kirsten made his 12th one-day hundred, extending his South African record and moving him up to seventh on the all-time list. Only Brian Lara (14), Sourav Ganguly (17), Desmond Haynes (17), Mark Waugh (18), Saeed Anwar (19) and Sachin Tendulkar (30) have made more. Kirsten was playing in his 160th match. • When he reached 62 Kirsten became the first South African and the 20th person in all to make 6000 one-day runs. • McKenzie's unbeaten 131 is his highest one-day score and his second hundred in his 35th match. He also scored 120 not out v Sri Lanka at East London in 2000-01.
