Invercargill team gains place in national finals 23 November 2001
The final of the South Island zone of the MILO Cup national primary schools' cricket competition was played in bleak, overcast conditions at Hagley Park, Christchurch on Tuesday. The two finalists represented the extremities of the South Island - Waimea Intermediate from Nelson and Rosedale Intermediate from Invercargill. Rosedale won the toss and invited Waimea to bat in this 35-over match. Waimea scored 114, being dismissed in the final over of their innings. Martin Kain top scoring with 20. For Rosedale the wickets were shared evenly between Guy Carter 2-9, Oliver Cuthill 2-16, Jason Osborne 2-16 and Sam Talwar 2-34. In reply, Rosedale steadily pulled in the target with Andrew Leckie 30 and Campbell Clarke 23 being to the fore. They passed Waimea's total with six overs to spare, finishing on 117/6. Hamish Malcolm 2-26 and L Thelin 2-18 were the pick of the Waimea bowlers. Rosedale Intermediate have now booked themselves a place in this year's national MILO Cup finals which will be held on Thursday, December 13, in Palmerston North. This adds to Rosedale's recent success in cricket as their girls' team were runners-up in last year's MILO Shield national final. © CricInfo
