Lights make their mark at Hamilton venue Lynn McConnell - 8 November 2001
Lights that will make Hamilton's WestpacTrust Park the best lit international venue in New Zealand were given a test last night. Not all the light fittings have arrived, 48 are still on the sea en route to Hamilton, but from what he saw last night Northern Districts' chief executive John Turkington was delighted with the effect. Having spent two years going through the Town Planning processes required to use the lights in the middle of the city, Turkington pronounced himself delighted with the results. "There were a few places in the outfield that were patchy but that is just a case of adjusting the lights to suit. "I'm rapt with the lux levels we have have achieved," he said. The lights will be used for a sports fixture for the first time this evening for the trans-Tasman touch rugby while the first cricket occasion for the lights will be the January 20 State Shield match between Northern Districts and Otago. While the first of two warm-up matches for England's tour of New Zealand, will be played between Northern Districts and England under lights on February 8. © CricInfo
