The game goes on as agreement reached Wisden CricInfo staff - November 29, 2001
India have agreed to drop Virender Sehwag from the squad for the first Test against England at Mohali, which will now go ahead as planned on Monday. "Sehwag won't play in Mohali," BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah told reporters. But he added that ICC had agreed that its executive board would discuss whether the third Test against South Africa should now be declared an official match. Shah also said that the decision was in return for an agreement to investigate decisions made by referee Mike Denness during the second Test at Port Elizabeth. Jagmohan Dalmiya was delighted at the outcome. "I did not challenge the authority of the ICC," he said, "I just wanted to sort out the problem for a solution." "The ICC will establish a commission (the ICC Referee's Commission) to examine and report to the ICC executive board on whether the ICC referee followed the procedure and acted in accordance with the ICC code of conduct including the guidelines on the principles of natural justice during the second Test match between India and South Africa. "The commission will be appointed by ICC in consultations with the BCCI and consist of persons of highest reputation and at least two of them will be reputed former cricketers." © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
