Ganguly retained as captain Wisden CricInfo staff - November 27, 2001
Sourav Ganguly has been reappointed as captain of the Indian team for the Tests as well as the one-day series against England. The selection committee, meeting in Jaipur, appointed Ganguly despite doubts over his fitness and general concern about his declining batting prowess. Ganguly, who pulled out on the morning of the unofficial Test against South Africa at Centurion with neck spasms, is said to have a 70 per cent chance of being fit in time for the first Test at Mohali on Monday, but a clearer picture should emerge when the results of medical tests are revealed. The rest of the team will be picked on Wednesday after consultation with Ganguly.
