Injured Nash replaced Wisden CricInfo staff - November 11, 2001
WELLINGTON (Reuters) Nash, who wasn't required to bat in New Zealand's second innings at Brisbane, returned home at the end of the match, NZ Cricket said in a statement. Going into the final day of the rain-affected match, New Zealand were 186 for 5 in their first innings, still needing 101 runs to avoid following on, after Australia's 486 for 9 dec. Nash tore the muscle playing a Queensland President's XI in a warm-up game, and was rested for the match against the Queensland state side before returning for the Test. Nash had 0 for 93 in his 30 overs in Australia's first innings, but aggravated the injury in a dive while fielding on the second day of the Test. Team manager Jeff Crowe said that Nash, who had only recently returned to playing after back problems, was bitterly disappointed that he had suffered a new injury. Nash will be replaced in the squad by Shane Bond, a fast bowler from Canterbury.
