Holding to help Shoaib with suspect action Wisden CricInfo staff - November 8, 2001
LONDON (Reuters) Shoaib, the charismatic Pakistan fast bowler, will work for three months with former West Indies paceman Holding, who is an ICC specialist bowling adviser, to analyse concerns raised and undergo any recommended remodelling of his action. A detailed assessment of Shoaib's action, and any remedial work undertaken, will be submitted to the ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board by next February 7. Shoaib can continue to play international cricket in this period. "I am delighted that Michael has agreed to work with the ICC and Shoaib Akhtar in this important area," said ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed. "His outstanding record as a player and the excellent communications skills he brings to his work in the media make him perfectly suited to the role." A report on Shoaib's action was filed to the ICC during the recent Sharjah Champions Trophy by South African match referee Denis Lindsay and umpires Rudi Koertzen of South Africa and George Sharp of England. Shoaib's action was also questioned last March, when he was reported by umpires Doug Cowie and Steve Dunne during a one-day international in New Zealand.
