Bangladesh Leaves For Zimbabwe Tomorrow Shahryar Khan - 31 March 2001
Bangladesh team's preparatory measures has ended and they are now looking for to head towards Zimbabwe tomorrow to pass the ordeal. Today a brief press conference was arranged in the auditorium of Bangladesh Cricket Board on this overseas tour. Sports journalists from different medias and the cricketing officials participated in this meeting. The Bangladeshi captain Naimur Rahman, coach Trevor Chappell, physio John Gloster and manager Mehbubur Rahman took part in the discussion. They also answered question from the journalists from different angles. Most of the questions were addressed to coach Trevor Chappell who's replies were rigorous and optimistic. As the practice match brought gloom to the supporters, some asking were very close to criticism. But Trevor adroitly handled everything jovially. He told that he and his team would give their best not to let their countrymen's heads down; but it must be remembered as well that Bangladesh has entered in the longer version of the game recently, so, the expectations should be reticent. Skipper Naimur Rahman had to defend himself for his struggling form but he was sure he could overcome it. Being a spin-based team Bangladesh is always lacking a quality fast bowler. Here, Trevor refuted the argument, saying he had seen a young seam bowler who got all the potentialities to be a future star. " The batting line up is pretty strong to settle things in favor. We are depending on this power, our pace attack, though not comparable to Zimbabwe's one, is not scrawny. If our players give the best they have I reckon we won't frustrate the crowd," said he in answering the journalists. The team is going to attend their final official dinner in a renowned restaurant this evening. It is notable that on 4th April they are taking on CFX Academy in as a warm-up one-day prior to their meeting against Zimbabwe squad for a three-match series starting from April, 7. © CricInfo Bangladesh
