Grant Bradburn caps another great day in his summer Lynn McConnell - 25 March 2001
Grant Bradburn got more good news after it seemed his summer was over yesterday. First up, he was recalled to the New Zealand Test team for the final National Bank series Test against Pakistan in Hamilton when preferred leg spin bowler Brooke Walker put his shoulder out while bowling in Auckland club cricket yesterday. Then tonight he was named Northern Districts' cricketer of the year at a special function at WestpacTrust Park in Hamilton. Bradburn won the Air New Zealand-sponsored award after being ND's top run scorer in the Shell Trophy while also scoring consistently in the Shell Cup. He was also the most economical Shell Cup bowler for ND and his 24 Trophy wickets were the best by a spinner in the competition. Included among his achievements was his feat in becoming ND's most capped player, by passing the late Andy Roberts total of 104 games to finish the summer on 107 games. He passed 4000 first class runs for ND and became the first ND player to take 100 first class catches. He was also named ND's batsman of the year. Fellow CLEAR Black Cap Daryl Tuffey was named the ND bowler of the year. An outstanding year with the Northern Districts women's team produced a double reward for Jenny Stafford. She was the Air New Zealand women's cricketer of the year and was also named the young cricketer of the year. She took 19 wickets during the year, including a hat trick in the State Insurance Cup. The full list of winners was: Basil McBurney Trophy, Hamilton; Fergus Hickey Rosebowl, Hamilton; Glenview International Hotel Cup, Northland; Outstanding service to coaching, Mike Cotter; Allan McBride Trophy for service to junior cricket, Paul Hickson; Umpire of the year, Tony Hill; Air New Zealand young cricketer of the year, Jenny Stafford; Air New Zealand women's cricketer of the year, Jenny Stafford; Fielder of the year, Hamish Marshall; Batsman of the year, Grant Bradburn; Bowler of the year, Daryl Tuffey; Air New Zealand Northern Districts cricketer of the year, Grant Bradburn. © CricInfo
