Oram released from Test team to captain CD
Lynn McConnell - 16 March 2001
New Zealand's 12th man in the second Test against Pakistan Jacob Oram will captain his State Central Districts side in their warm-up games against the New Zealand Selection XI at Bert Sutcliffe Oval starting on Monday.
Oram has been released by the New Zealand team for the final day of the Test in order to get match play with his side before they head to Perth to play in the international one-day provincial series against teams from Australia, India and south Africa, from March 29 to April 4.
Meanwhile, Gary Stead has withdrawn from the Selection XI due to work commitments. A replacement player is yet to be confirmed but Chris Gaffaney will take over the captaincy.
James Franklin will play in the two-day match for the Selection XI but will be released from the one-day game so that he will be fresh for Wellington's three-day match against Pakistan at the Basin Reserve, March 22-24.
