Kolkata victory 'historic': Muthiah
16 March 2001
Board president A C Muthiah termed as "historic" India's 'superlative
performance' in putting to an end the all-conquering Australians' 16-
Test winning run by scripting an incredible 171-run victory in the
second Test at Kolkata on Thursday.
"To turn around a match from a hopeless situation and go on to win it
convincingly, especially against the invincible Australians, who have
had a dream run, is no mean achievement," Muthiah said in Chennai.
"I am happy the Indian team turned out a superlative performance by
their sheer determination and excellent team work. "The individual
heroics of youngsters like V V S Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Harbhajan
Singh, under the dynamic captaincy of Saurav Ganguly, fully deserve
our praise.
"This is an historic event not only in the annals of Indian cricket,
but also in international cricket. We have proved we have the talent
and ability to fight back," Muthiah said.
