Gilchrist to miss Delhi match
4 March 2001
Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist will miss the three-day
match here between Board President's XI and Australians on March 6-8 due to a "niggle in the hip".
His replacement Brad Haddin will be flying here Sunday night, it was revealed today at a press conference to announce that Foster's would be the official beer of the 2001 Australian team's tour to India.
Gilchrist, who played a match-winning innings of 122 in the Mumbai Test which India lost by ten wickets, was however, confident of playing the Kolkata Test starting on March 11.
"There is nothing to worry about, I hope I'll be alright before the Kolkata Test," the Australian vice-captain said. Gilchrist suffered the injury during warm-up yesterday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Gilchrist's recovery would be crucial for the visitors as he is in top form and his contribution behind the stumps is invaluable. He was earlier tipped to lead the Australian side in the three-dayer but in his absence Steve Waugh is expected to don the captain's mantle.
