Ganguly to lead Board President's XI
2 March 2001
In an obvious attempt to get some badly needed match practice ahead of the crucial second Test in Kolkata, Indian captain Sourav Ganguly will lead the Board President's XI against the visiting Australians in the three-day match to be played at the Ferozshah Kotla ground in New Delhi from March 6 to 8.
The BCCI vice-president C K Khanna who is also the vice-president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) said that Delhi's wicket-keeper batsman Vijay Dahiya, who was originally named captain of the Board President's XI will now be Ganguly's deputy in the match.
In the first Test that ended with a ten-wicket comprehensive defeat of India on the third day in Mumbai yesterday, Ganguly's contribution with the bat was a total of nine runs, eight in the first innings and one in the second. The Kolkata Test starts on March 11.
