Upul Chandana
Wisden CricInfo staff - June 28, 2001
Wisden overview A pint-sized, talented allround cricketer whose best suit is his fielding, Chandana has suffered from his country's antipathy towards legspin and being labelled a one-day player. He has done well on his few Test appearances: with Muttiah Muralitharan injured, he carried the attack in the Asian championship final when Pakistan totalled 594, finishing with six wickets from 47.5 overs. He played a minor part in the win over Australia in Kandy and was recalled as one of three frontline spinners for the epic home series against South Africa in 2000, in which he was a key player in the first two Tests and almost carried Sri Lanka to victory in Kandy with the bat. Perhaps that was held against him: he since lost his one-day place and was an anonymous member of the 2000-01 tour of South Africa. Simon Wilde
