Nuwan Zoysa
Wisden CricInfo staff - June 27, 2001
Wisden overview Zoysa, a lanky left-arm fast bowler, has had a stop-start career since making his debut at 18, his Test appearances being spread across ten series. He has suffered from injuries and the fact that Sri Lanka already possess a superior left-arm paceman in Chaminda Vaas. But he has had his moments with the new ball and one of them was incomparable: at Harare he performed the hat-trick with his first three balls of the match, a unique feat. He missed the next game through injury. Two months earlier, he took three wickets before lunch to help reduce Australia to 60 for seven and set up Sri Lanka's first win over them. That was his first Test for 18 months. Bizarrely, he has not improved on the tally of seven wickets he took in his first series, in New Zealand. As a tailend batsman, he can be unrepentant.
