David Boon
Wisden CricInfo staff - June 19, 2001
Wisden overview David Boon mastered the art of making the bowling come to him. Compact in build and strokeplay, he dwelled at the crease with unbreakable concentration until the right ball came for him to cut, pull, glance or sometimes to drive through cover. Thus he played 100 Tests, was Man of the Match when Australia won the 1987 World Cup final, and became an alltime great. At first an opener, he played his most productive cricket at No. 3. Like Allan Border, he never forgot the austerity of first days in Test cricket, and gave nothing away, at the crease, at short leg, or in his face; it needed a sharp eye to catch even one bristle of his moustache move. He is now an Australian selector. He remains probably Tasmania's best-known sportsman. Greg Baum
