Playing at the same time as Kiran More and Nayan Mongia had the unfortunate effect of limiting Saba Karim's international appearances to one Test and 34 one-day internationals. A dapper wicketkeeper and a feisty middle-order batsman, he had a long and distinguished career for Bihar and Bengal, making more than 300 dismissals behind the wicket and averaging over 55 in front of them. His ability to deliver with the bat in crunch situations made him a prized wicket in domestic cricket. An eye injury, sustained while keeping to Anil Kumble in the Asia Cup, ended his career prematurely. Actually he made his one and only Test appearance four months after the injury, but it turned out to be his final international match. S Rajesh
