India's captain Ganguly guided them to victory and claimed his sixth match award at Toronto – he was actually named "Royal Stag of the Match" after a sponsor's product. The Indians had lost to West Indies in Singapore three days earlier, but looked to have recovered far better from jetlag as they now reduced them to 57 for four on a damp pitch. Campbell anchored the innings with 62, but only Powell, with 37 from 34 balls, lent him momentum in a stand of 64 in nine overs. Chasing only 164, India experimented by opening with Ramesh and wicket-keeper Mannava Prasad, who ran up 54 by the 13th over. Prasad and Dravid went in quick succession, but Ganguly hit seven fours and a six in 69 balls in an unbroken century partnership with Ramesh, and the win came with 12 overs to spare.
