Wisden overviewA compact, technically correct and busy opening bat, Leon Garrick makes up in temperament for what he lacks in stature -- he is just 5ft 6ins tall. Both courageous and naïve, he will not back down from a bowler, and had verbal altercations with Curtly Ambrose -- of all people -- when he batted for Jamaica against the Leeward Islands, and Allan Donald when West Indies faced South Africa in 2000-01. Garrick lost that particular battle, and became just the second batsman -- after South Africa's Jimmy Cook -- to fall to the first ball of a Test in which he was making his debut. He's working on controlling his temper, but it is part of what makes him a good, combative batsman who loves to bat for long periods. Vaneisa Baksh
