New Zealand v Australia 1999-2000 Wisden CricInfo staff - July 5, 2001
At WestpacTrust Stadium, Wellington, February 16, 17 (day/night). No result. Toss: New Zealand. International debut: W. A. Wisneski. The second international at Wellington's new stadium was even more severely affected by rain than the first, against West Indies in January. Play was not possible on the first day because the bowlers' run-ups were wet and, to the disappointment of the large crowd, the reserve day fared little better. With players and umpires in position for a 2 p.m. start, more rain meant a delay until 3.30 and a match reduced to 43 overs each. Gilchrist was caught at slip off the third legitimate ball, but Mark Waugh and Hayden punished some wayward New Zealand bowling. Hayden raced to 64 from 68 balls before the rain set in again. The Australians had been more inconvenienced off the field when it was revealed that their game plan, aggressive in content, had been pushed by mistake under the doors of fellow hotel guests. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
