Zimbabwe v England 1999-2000 Wisden CricInfo staff - July 5, 2001
At Bulawayo, February 18. England won by one wicket. Toss: England. Needing just 12 for victory with half their wickets in hand, England conspired to lose four for five runs, and left themselves reliant upon the dubious batting talent of Mullally, a practising No. 11, to see them home. In a match reduced to 48 overs a side before the start, Zimbabwe had again begun confidently, only to lose their way: 60 for one became 102 for eight against the brisk medium-pace of White, who orchestrated the collapse with a second spell of four for nine in seven overs. He had previously dismissed Johnson. England lost both openers to Streak for six, but the middle order seemed to have settled matters until the late clatter of wickets. Gough's fine-leg four and Mullally's winning boundary through third man ensured that England could no longer lose the four-match series. Man of the Match: C. White. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
