Possessed of an ability to bowl long spells with a clean action not unlike Terry Alderman's - and with the same Aldermanic assassin's smile as he approaches the crease - Ashley Noffke only broke into the strong Queensland side in 2000-01. He impressed in restricted appearances for Middlesex in 2002, taking a lot of wickets but occasionally proving expensive. Noffke, who has a dog called Bradman and loves fishing, had not played Test cricket when called up for the 2003 tour of the West Indies. Greg Baum
