Hampshire and Somerset tie Second XI Trophy match
Des Stanger - 3 July 2001
A magnificent game in the beutiful setting of North Perrott. Somerset batted first but lost both openers cheaply, but Graham Rose built an innings of style, supported by Parsons, Trego and Bulbeck to post a large total. The Hampshire bowlers toiling in the heat did well to contain the home side to that total, with James Hamblin's 3-31 being the pick of the bunch.
Hampshire like Somerset lost both their experienced openers early but it was left to young Andy Sexton to anchor the innings, whilst trialist Chris Benham scored a hard hitting 47. The remaining batsmen chipped in as the winning target loomed, but off the last ball of the match Ian Jones bowled Charles Van der Gucht to ensure a Tied match, both teams taking 1 point each.
