CD settles for first innings points
Warwick Larkins - 26 February 2001
The run fest at Alexandra reached its finale just after the start of the final session today when the skippers of Otago and Central Districts decided enough was enough and their game ended in a draw.
When the day started Otago was 25 for one, and needing another 411 runs to steal an unlikely victory. In the end it had 236/4 when the game ended with Craig Cumming 122 not out and with Mark Richardson having increased his season aggregate by another 72 runs to go alongside his first innings 166.
Central Districts claimed the first innings points from the game and by the end it was groundsman Peter Domigan's pitch that won out with four centuries recorded in the match by Mark Douglas and Glen Sulzberger for CD and Mark Richardson and Cumming for Otago.
The bowling of Brent Hefford deserves special mention with a match analysis of 7-69, he is a New Zealand bowler of the future.
