WP B made a strong bid to reach the final of the UCB 3-day Bowl competition
when they set their Namibia a stiff target of 333 with more than
a day to spare at Newlands on Friday.
Day 2 Report
Western Province B tightened the noose on their northern neighbours thanks to splendid bowling from left arm spinner Paul Harris and aggressive batting.
Harris took the last eight wickets, which fell for just 97, ending with a career best 8/57. Gavin Murgatroyd was the only batsman to master him,
if only temporarily.
The home batsmen then blazed away towards a sporting declaration. Andrew Puttick reached his 50 off just 47 balls, and Lloyd Ferreira then raced to an undefeated century off just 93 balls in 117 minutes, hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes, his hundred prompting the declaration. Set 333 to win in a minimum of 127 overs, Swanepoel fell to the second delivery of the innings.
Seager and Jan-Berry Burger guided the visitors to 50 by the close, needing a further 283 on the final day.

Day 1 Report
Western Province B failed to dominate the opening day quite as planned. The top order collapsed against workmanlike bowling. Ironically, Jonathan McLean, the only batsman without first class experience, was the sole half-centurion despite being dropped first ball. Only some sensible hitting earned the fourth batting point. The lack of application was typified by Andrew Puttick's lazy run out. The gangly Bjorn Kotze produced some lively medium pace to bag five wickets. James Kirtley bowled quickly without luck, and spinners Deon Kotze and Lennie Louw were economical. The visiting batsmen struggled, losing both openers before stumps and ending 221 behind with 8 wickets remaining.
