South Africa's preparations under way Wisden CricInfo staff - December 5, 2001
PERTH (Reuters) McKenzie hit 76 and Klusener made 63 as the South Africans piled on 256 for 9 from their 50 overs without over-exerting themselves in the friendly at Lilac Hill. They then bowled the ACB Chairman's XI out for 209 to win by 47 runs. Most pleasing for the South Africans was the re-appearance of Allan Donald. In six overs, broken up into two spells, he took 2 for 42 and looked near to full fitness.
The traditional village-style match is not a first-class match and does not count on the official records with both teams allowed to chop and change their lineups from a pool of 13 players. The South Africans will play their first serious match over four days against Western Australia from Friday with the first of three Tests against Australia starting in Adelaide a week later. South Africa can replace Australia as unofficial world champions if they win or draw the series. Western Australia (from) Simon Katich (capt), Michael Hussey, Ryan Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Kade Harvey, Brad Hogg, Stuart Karpinnen, Scott Meuleman, Matt Nicholson, Marcus North, Brad Oldroyd, Brad Williams.
