Windies health worries grow
Wisden CricInfo staff - December 5, 2001
West Indies' health problems worsened with the news that two more players are quitting the ill-fated tour of Sri Lanka.
More worrying of the two is the opening batsman Leon Garrick, who has been diagnosed as having a potentially serious heart complaint (sick sinus syndrome). Garrick had complained of chest pains and a shortage of breath, and intensive tests revealed the problem. He is expected to undergo further tests on his return to Jamaica before a decision is made as to what treatment he needs.
Legspinner Dinanath Ramnarine will also miss the remainder of the tour after tearing a muscle in his left side during the third Test in Colombo. He has been advised to rest for four weeks.
Replacements are expected to be named by the weekend.
