Smith guides WP to victory over Free State Eagles CricInfo Reporter - 20 December 2001
Graeme Smith continued his rich run of form with a wonderful all-round performance as Western Province beat Free State by 47 runs in their Standard Bank Cup match at Goodyear Park on Wednesday night. The big left-hander scored 87 as WP amassed 227 for six in their 45 overs and then picked up three for 35 as Free State were bowled out for 180 in just 40.2 overs despite Herman Bakkes' 52. In Benoni, Easterns beat Eastern Province by four wickets in a game reduced to a 33-overs-a-side affair by a Highveld thunderstorm. EP were 164 for seven off 33 overs before the rain came down, leaving Easterns an adjusted target of 176 off the same amount of overs. Thanks to Ant Botha's unbeaten 60 they achieved this with five balls to spare.
