Dolphins, Titans and Diamonds take SBC points on Friday CricInfo Report - 15 December 2001
Jonty Rhodes hammered 95 off 84 balls to set up a 31-run victory for the KwaZulu-Natal Dolphins over Boland at Paarl on Friday night while two other Standard Bank Cup maches were decided on the Duckworth-Lewis system. At the Wanderers, Northerns Titans beat the Highveld Strikers by 34 runs in a match brought to a premature end by a thunderstorm, while on Potchefstroom the Griqua Diamonds accounted for North West by six wickets. In Paarl Rhodes lifted the Dolphins to 233 for eight in their 35 overs after Ahmed Amla's 41 had given the visiting side a useful start. Boland, in a turn, were bowled out for 202 with Jon Kent and Dolphins captain Dale Benkenstein picking up three wickets apiece. At the Wanderers Alviro Peterson was denied a deserved century by the storm which halted the Titans innings at 149 for two after 31 overs in reply to the Strikers' 207 for four. Peterson had 94 when the rain came down, scored off 99 balls. Titans' readjusted target had been 116 to give them a comfortable win. Earlier, Stephen Cook (66 off 70 balls) and Nic Pothas (50 not out off 61 balls) had put on 85 for the fourth wicket to lift the Strikers to 207 for four. Pothas, who is to join Surrey next year, was playing as an overseas professional on his home ground. In Potchefstroom, Griquas were 191 for four off 31.4 overs in reply to North West's 197 all out when the match was halted. Loots Bosman, with an unbeaten 92, provided the substance to the Griqua innings while Zahir Abrahim (four for 38) and Martin Gidley (four for 41) had combined to bowl North West out. © CricInfo
