Bell and Jones to lead inter-city rivals Steve McMorran - 12 December 2001
The two men who have captained Wellington in State Championship matches this season, Matthew Bell and Richard Jones, have been named as the captains of the Wellington and Hutt Valley teams which will meet in an annual inter-city one-day match at Kelburn Park on Saturday. Bell will lead a Wellington XI which includes his Championship team-mates James Franklin and Jeetan Patel and the England A batsman David Sales, who has been associated with Wellington's first-class squad and who will play State Shield matches for the province this season. Jones' Hutt Valley team includes New Zealand one-day wicket-keeper/batsman Chris Nevin and State Championship players Grant Donaldson, Phil Chandler, Matthew Walker, Mark Jefferson, Andrew Penn and Ash Turner. The match, which begins at Kelburn Park at 11am, will help to answer the vexed question of whether the strength of Wellington cricket resides in the city or has moved to the Hutt Valley where Stokes Valley have become Wellington's dominant club - New Zealand's club champions. The teams: Hutt Valley: Richard Jones (captain), Chris Nevin, Leighton Morgan, Grant Donaldson, Phil Chandler, Matthew Walker, Gavin Klocek, Shane Battock, Mark Jefferson, Andrew Penn, Ash Turner. Wellington: Matthew Bell (captain), Scott Golder, Sam Fairley, David Sales, Mark Tulloch, James Franklin, Mark Gillespie, Glynn Howell, Paul Hitchcock, Mayu Pasupati, Jeetan Patel. The players are requested to meet at Kelburn Park at 10am. © CricInfo
