Played at Johannesburg, Friday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, December 26, 27, 29, 30.- For the second test match South Africa made four changes from the team beaten at Durban, Zulch, Beaumont, Tancred and Newberry taking the places of Tapscott, Lewis, Cooper and Baumgartner. The result was not quite so overwhelming as before, but the Englishmen won by an innings and 12 runs. It was Barnes's match. On no occasion during the tour was the great bowler seen to quite such advantage. He took seventeen wickets- eight for 56 and nine for 103- proving quite irresistible on the last morning. The English batting fell away strangely after a splendid start. Relf and Rhodes put up 141 for the first wicket, and Rhodes and Mead added 152 for the third. Rhodes was too cautious to please the crowd, but his steadiness was invaluable to his side. Batting five hours and ten minutes for his 152, he hit twenty one 4's. Managing, at last, to get a hundred in a Test match, Mead played extremely well for something over three hours and a half.
