Each side scored 199 but the South Africans on going in for the second time lost three batsmen, including Faulkner, for 23 runs. England's prospects were then very flattering, but Gordon white and Nourse put on 143 runs together in a little over two hours and a half, quite pulling the game round. White might have been stumped when he made 36, and was again left off when 96, but nevertheless he played a fine innings. Scoring 118 out of 222 in four hours he hit a six and ten 4's. Snooke, who batted with great skill, received such excellent support from Commaille, Sinclair and Schwarz that in the end the total reached 347. England were left with 348 to get. Hobbs and Rhodes put up 48 for the first wicket, but with five men out the score was only 111, and the match as good as over. Hobbs batted splendidly, scoring 70 out of 106 in an hour and a quarter. Thompson and Bird made a capital effort, adding 63 runs in less than an hour, but despite all they did the innings ended for 252, the South Africans winning by 95 runs. Faulkner bowled very finely in the last innings. This time he and Vogler took between them fifteen of the twenty English wickets. The receipts during the five days of the match amounted to £1575.
