Played at Capetown, Friday, Saturday, Monday, March 30, 31, April 2.- The Englishmen finished their tour with a crushing defeat, being beaten by an innings and 16 runs. Up to a certain point the game was quite even, but the English bowling was mastered on the second day, Snooke, Sherwell and Vogler by fine hitting secured a long lead for South Africa on the first innings. The Englishmen were a beaten side before the drawing of stumps, and thirty five minutes' play next morning brought the match to an end. Nourse and Schwarz bowled splendidly. Hayes was kept away by illness. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
