Dangerous pitch causes abandonment
Wisden CricInfo staff - August 13, 2001

COLOMBO (Reuters)
A three-day match between India and a Sri Lanka Board XI has been abandoned on the final day as the pitch was too dangerous to bat on.

Skipper Sourav Ganguly (74 not out) declared the Indian innings after wicketkeeper Sameer Dighe (25 not out) survived the first over of the day from Dinusha Fernando without adding to the overnight score of 281 for 5.

Captains and coaches of both teams, and the umpires, agreed to have the pitch repaired after it became dry and had an unreliable bounce. But the pitch was found unsuitable to play on even after four hours of repairs and the match was called off.

The Indian batsmen had been troubled by the uneven bounce of the pitch on the second day of the match when it had been repaired, causing a delay in the start of play.

The Sri Lanka Board XI scored 326 in their first innings.
