New book reveals Bradman's best Test team ever Wisden CricInfo staff - August 13, 2001
MELBOURNE (Reuters) The former Australia captain, who died in February at the age of 92, picked Australia's Arthur Morris and South Africa's Barry Richards as the openers, with himself at three, Melbourne newspaper the Sunday Herald Sun has reported. India's Sachin Tendulkar was next, followed by West Indies great Garry Sobers and Australia's wicketkeeper in the 1948 Ashes series, Don Tallon, the newspaper said in apreview of the book "Bradman's Best" by Roland Perry. The full team would be published on Monday. Bradman, who captained Australia's 1948 Ashes-winning team known as "The Invincibles", is considered the greatest batsman to have played the game, averaging 99.94 in 52 tests. "As someone who did not like being in the spotlight, Bradman resisted being put on the spot about his selection of the world's best-ever cricket team," the book's publishers Random House said in a statement. "But shortly before his death in February 2001, Bradman did reveal his selection -- and his reasons for his choice -- to Roland Perry, his biographer and a man he trusted implicitly."
