Pakistan's former captain Javed Miandad has begun a three-week stint as Bangladesh's batting coach to help prepare them for the Asian Test championship.

Miandad arrived on Tuesday to assist the team's Australian coach Trevor Chappell.

Bangladesh travel to Karachi on August 21 for a three-day warm-up match before moving to Multan for the first Test of the championship against Pakistan, beginning on August 29.

Bangladesh have lost all three of their Tests since gaining Test status in 2000 -- against India lastNovember and twice against Zimbabwe in April. Sri Lanka and India are the other teams in the championship.

Miandad scored 8,832 runs in 124 tests for Pakistan between 1976-93, and 7,381 runs in 233 one-day internationals.
